Student: How do I upload media to a Collection as part of an assignment?

By default, students cannot upload media to a Collection. However, the instructor can grant students uploading permission allowing them to upload media to a specific Collection.

To upload media to a Collection, click on Media Gallery in the left tool panel.

This displays the Media Gallery tool home page.

Click on the Collection tab, then the name of the Collection.

Click on the Collection tab, then the name of the Collection.

This displays the contents of the Collection.

Click Upload New Media

This displays the Upload dialog box.

Select the Media Type tab, then click Browse.

Select the Media Type tab, then click Browse.

This displays your computer's file locator.

Select the media file on your computer, then click Open (or Select).

Select the media file on your computer, then click Open (or Select).

This returns the display to the Upload Media dialog box with the file listed.

Click Upload.

Click Upload.

This uploads the video file to the Collection.

Once uploaded (which may take some time depending on the size of the file), click Next

This displays the media metadata dialog box.

Edit Name, Tags or Description, then click Next

This processes the media into the correct format for use with the Media Gallery Player.

Note: This may take a long time depending on the length of the media. Do not proceed until this proces is completely finished.

When the media is completely processed, click Finish (or Add More Media).

This will return the display to the Collection with a thumbnail of the media displayed on the right.

NOTE; When a student uploads media to a Collection that the instructor has set as part of an assignment, the video is by default "Private".  That is, only the instructor and the individual student can view the media.

Either the student or the instructor can edit the details of the video and make it "public" (viewable by all students).

Note: When a student uploads media to a Collection, the media is also available in the student's personal My Media space.
