How do I link grades in the Assignment tool to the Gradebook tool?

Instructors can post Assignment grades in the Assignments tool.

These grade can be automatically copied to the Gradebook tool when the grade (or grades) are released in the Assignments tool.

Go to Gradebook2.

Go to Gradebook2.

Make sure a grade item exists for the Assignment.

Go to Assignments.

Wen Creating or Editing an Assignment, select "Associate with an existing gradebook entry" and select the Grade Item.

When finished creating or editing the Assignment, click Post.

The gradebook item is now associated with the Assignment.

After a student submits a file for for the Assignment, click Grade

Under the name of the student you want to grade, click Grade.

Grade, add comments and click "Save and Don't Release to Student"

Repeat this process for each student submission.

Note Unreleased grades in the Assignment tool are not copied to the Gradebook2 tool. If you click "Save and Release to Student", the grade will be viewable in the Assignments tool and in the Gradebook2 tool (if the Gradebook Item is released in the Gradebook2 tool).

Note Status and Grades are listed. No checkmarks in Release column.

Since Grades are not yet released, students cannot see their grades and feedback in either the Assignments tool or the Gradebook2 tool.

Click Release Grades.

Click Release Grades.

This releases the grades to both the Assignments tool and the Gradebook2 tool.

Note: Students will still not be able to see their grade in the Gradebook2 tool unless the Grade Item is released.

To release the grades for students to view in Gradebook2, right-click the item and select "Edit this grade item".

Tip: On a PC (Right-Click) - On a Mac (CONTROL-Click).

Checkmark Release Scores, then click Save/Close.

This releases the grades for the item for student view (and turns the grade item blue).

Note: Instructors comments from the Assignments tool are also copied to the Gradebook2 tool and can be viewed by students under the Comments column.
