How do I create a Web Content link to a web site?
The Web Content tool allows instructors to create a button in the left tool panel that links to a web site.
Go to Site Editor.
Select the Site Editor tool from the Tool Menu of your site.
Click Edit Tools.
Select the Web Content tool.
This displays the Add Multiple Tool Instances dialogue box.
Enter the web site information.
- Enter a title for the Web Content tool (which will display in the Tool Menu).
- Enter the URL for the web site.
- Click Continue.
Click the new Web Content link.
After clicking the Web Content Link, the display will depend on the type of link you created and what browser your are using.
If the URL that you linked to was an "http" link, the display (depending on your browser) will display, after 8 seconds, a message "Alert: This page seems to have trouble loading" along with a link to Re-launch the web page in a new window. Clicking on the "Re-launch" will open the website in a new window.
If the URL that you linked to was an "https" link, the display (depending on your browser) will display, in the window to the right of the tool panel.
Some browsers will always display a "Re-launch" page no matter if the link is "http" or "https".
To Edit the Web Content link, click the Edit icon
This displays the Customize Web Content page.
Make your edits, then click Update Options.
Note: One of the options is to "Open in a new window". This is a good choice if your URL is "http" as it will automatically open the web site in a new window without the user having to first click on a "Relaunch" link.
